OBJECTIVES
- Carry out environmental impact studies for all our oil and mining projects;
- Promote the use, reuse, recycling and responsible disposal of our waste;
- Provide sustainable development training at all levels of our organisation;
- Introduce new energy sources into our operations (wind, solar, etc.);
- Favour processes, installations and equipment that are less energy-intensive and low in greenhouse-gas emissions;
- Control the environmental impacts of investment projects;
- Define emergency plans to prevent and mitigate accidental damage to the environment;
- Maintain ongoing environmental regulatory monitoring.
OVERVIEW OF ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIONS
Environmental Impact Studies (EIS)
Completion of Environmental Impact Studies for all hydrocarbon and mining projects, in accordance with current environmental regulations and good oil & mining industry practice.
Eco-responsible waste management
- Paper — archive-pruning operations carried out with paper & cardboard recycling professionals (SOREPAC, specialised in paper-waste recovery, shredding and baling, and CMCP, a paper manufacturer).
- Used printer cartridges — ONHYM joined HP’s “Planet Partners” cartridge return programme, contributing to environmental protection by reducing both the consumption of natural resources and the volume of waste sent to landfill.
- Chemical products — a project to clean up the stock of mud and chemical products (packaging, collection, transport and treatment), evacuating a considerable volume of chemical waste while respecting regulations and best practice.
Carbon performance
ONHYM and its partners help clients reduce their CO₂ emissions by replacing heavy polluting fuels on their sites with cleaner natural gas. Numerous further actions reduce greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions:
- Optimising travel by reviewing site organisation and daily vehicle use;
- Pooling journeys and using remote-communication tools;
- Using renewable energy — mainly solar — to partially power well sites in the Gharb region;
- Converting the Gharb generators to gas-powered units;
- Preventive maintenance to keep all equipment running efficiently;
- Using biodegradable polymer-based drilling mud;
- Safe identification, collection and transport of chemical products;
- Site rehabilitation and clean-up at the end of works, per oil-industry standards.
